Johnny began smoking and experimenting with drugs in his early teens, leading to a bondage of 20 years. At the peak of his addiction, he was consuming drugs up to 15 times a day. Failing to complete secondary school, Johnny found himself in Boys Home, in and out of halfway houses, and estranged from his family who evicted him.
His wake-up call came when he saw his reflection and could barely recognised his sunken appearance. He made the resolute decision to overcome his addiction and went through TNCM’s Residential Rehabilitation Programme.
Since his turnaround, Johnny has been dedicated to helping others with similar struggles, guiding many trying to get back on track as well as their families. He has also been working with youth in schools and counselling those imprisoned.
In 2011, Johnny got married to Michelle, and their union blissfully blessed with a daughter. In spite of prematurely dropping out of school, Johnny attained his Diploma in Counselling Psychology, is a Certified Behavioural Consultant and is pursuing his Bachelor of Theology.
Today, Johnny is a key support to TNCM’s Executive Director and oversees the social enterprises of TNCM. His life experiences and valuable insights have made him a leader in ensuring that the troubled receive care. His journey from a hopeless addict to a carer for the helpless is a showcase of faith, hope, and love.
